The Cailleach as a Girl
The owl is sacred to the Cailleach in her crone form. One if its many Gaelic names is Cauilleach-oidhche which means 'crone of the night'. The barn owl is Cauilleach-oidhche-gheal, or 'white old woman of the night'. Here, we find the Cailleach as a girl, her destiny already resting upon her own shoulders.
