Hekate of the Earth. Serpent. The One Before The Gate.
July 2021

There are hundreds of sometimes wildly contradictory epithets associated with the great Titan-Goddess Hekate. Each one calls forth a specific aspect of her, like the glittering facets of a jewel. When we can hold many of these differing aspects simultaneously we may begin to approach something of her true nature.

Here Hekate's lower half is serpentine, revealing her chthonic qualities; how she is bound to the earth and the Underworld, keeper of the keys to Tartarus. Also I feel a connection in her here with the deeper subconscious realms of the world's oceans, where she may even swim with Tiamat, the ancient Babylonian primordial Goddess of the sea.

As guardian of the holy gates, she stands shameless in the erotic power of knowing this.
