“O subservient Iynx!
O sacred slave who links heaven, earth
The Underworld, and all their rulers:
Quicker than the kestrel; keener, crueler:
Hear me, Heaven's Harrier; Herald, Carrier,
Whisperer in Hekate's ear:”

This drawing arrived through a movement ritual I was exploring, arising from a working in Jack Grayle's phenomenal tome The Hekateaon, to call forth a benevolent helper spirit. All had proceeded well, but I needed something more to bring it fully to heel.

I went out to the liminal edge where sand and sea meet. Where particle and wave entwine, I felt into the movement there, drawing up roots from the earth through the circular rhythm of the ocean, and inviting that spirit in and through my body until it became merged with me. But it still wasn't fully here.

So I sharpened my pencils and drew it forth more into tangible form and bound it. I kept it folded into my sketchbook. But when I let people see that sketch others also felt something calling them from it too, and asked me for a copy of it.

I asked the iynx and gained agreement, but on condition that only 11 small prints can ever be made, plus two proofs.
